Shiitake mushroom workshop offered by Cooperative Extension Service

Persons interested in growing Shiitake mushrooms can find out how Feb. 26 at a hands-on mushroom log inoculation workshop hosted by North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Surry County and the North Surry High School Future Farmers of America.

According to Extension Agent Joanna Radford, the workshop will be held at North Surry High School in the agriculture building at 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn about Shiitake mushrooms and will inoculate two oak logs with mushroom spores to take home with them.

“This workshop is hands-on learning so prepare to leave dirty,” said Radford. The fee for the workshop is $20. Preregistration is required by Feb. 22 by calling the extension service at 401-8025.
