• A Dobson woman was arrested Wednesday on larceny and other violations related to alleged crimes at Mayberry Mall stores, including pushing a security officer. Ashley Michelle Hicks, 22, of 167 New Cedar Road, is accused of two counts each of larceny and possession of stolen property and simple assault. Hicks was detained by mall security personnel after allegedly concealing rings, necklaces, earrings and other jewelry items from Claire’s Boutique, valued at about $200.

Hicks also is said to have concealed two woven tops, a day dress, a knit top, three pair of denim jeans and a jacket, valued altogether at $225, from Belk Department Store. She allegedly pushed security officer Blake White at the mall. Hicks was held in the Surry County Jail in lieu of a $500 secured bond and is to be in District Court on Feb. 18.

• David Bruce Marshall, 33, of 189 Chatham Road, is facing a hit-and-run offense filed Monday. After fleeing the scene of an accident, Marshall was located at his home later and arrested, according to police records, which also state that Marshall admitted to consuming alcohol before and after the collision. He was freed on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Feb. 12.

• Kenneth Ray Galyean, 20, of 125 Flower Charm Lane, was cited for second-degree trespassing Saturday after being encountered in the parking area at Westwood Plaza on West Lebanon Street, from which he previously had been banned. Galyean was jailed under a $500 secured bond and is to appear in District Court on Feb. 26.

• Three men were jailed after a theft-related incident last Friday at Walmart, including one who also had outstanding warrants on felony drug charges served on him and another who was found to have failed to appear in court. After being encountered by police during the larceny investigation, Ronald Dean Wood, 39, of 120 Happy Lane, Dobson, was found to have active warrants filed on Jan. 17 by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office on charges of maintaining a drug vehicle; sale or delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance; and misdemeanor larceny.

Stacey Lee Phillips, 30, also of 120 Happy Lane, was cited for the larceny of five pairs of socks from Walmart, valued at $42, and possession of stolen property. In addition, there was a warrant out for Phillips regarding a previous larceny. Earl Ray Gentry, 40, of 330 Simpson Mill Road, was cited for larceny and possession of stolen property, a wristwatch valued at $13, and was found to have an outstanding order for arrest for failure to appear issued on Jan. 15. Both Phillips and Gentry were located in the store parking lot with the stolen property in their possession, police records show. They indicate that Gentry was jailed without privilege of bond, Wood was held under a $25,000 secured bond and Phillips was jailed in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.

Wood is slated to appear in court on Feb. 20, Phillips on March 7 and Gentry on March 21.
