Local officials have ruled the cause of an afternoon mobile home fire Thursday as undetermined. According to Surry County Fire Marshall Doug Jones the roof of the home had already collapsed by the time fire fighters responded to the call. He said the state of the remains of the structure were so bad, a clear cause to the blaze could not be found.

According to Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief James Johnson, the home at 800 Oak Grove Church Road was destroyed by the fire. He said the call was received at approximately 11:55 a.m. and by the time crews arrived on scene the house had collapsed.

Johnson said the fire was so intense, hoses were pulled from the truck and hooked to hydrants so fire fighters could safely spray water on the structure from a distance. No one was reported injured in connection with the fire. Units from Skull Camp, Franklin and Central Surry Volunteer Fire Departments also responded to the call.
