PILOT MOUNTAIN — The East Surry Cardinals boys varsity beat the Rams at home on Wednesday, and Cardinal Eli Gilbert was the game-high scorer with 16 points.

Cardinals Head Coach Jason Anderson said, “I was particularly pleased with Eli Gilbert. He was unselfish on his passes and pulled the trigger on open looks. He shot well from the field and was 4-6 from the free throw line.”

Overall, the Cardinal team showed balanced scoring against the Rams though the Cardinals traded good size leads due to some mental mistakes in a physical game, said Anderson.

However, at the end of the day, Anderson said, “A win is a win, an ugly one is still a good one.”

The Cardinal high scorers against the Rams were: Eli Gilbert 16; Scott Meredith 15; Tyler Pardue 12; Drew Alley 8; Seth Brim 7; Austin Johnson 3; Carson Long, 3.

The high scorer for the Starmount Rams was Ben Combs with 14 points. The Cardinals have a 12-5 record.
