PINNACLE — Horne Creek Living Historical Farm reopened today on its regular schedule after being closed Thursday due to an electrical service problem. The historic site is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Horne Creek spokeswoman Lisa Turney said electrical service to the facility had been disrupted due to rain water seeping into an electrical conduit in the visitors center.

“We didn’t quite know what we were dealing with. We have had so much rain recently we didn’t know exactly what or how bad the problem would be until we could get an electrician out to correct the problem.”

The North Carolina Department of Natural Resources previously announced the site would be closed until further notice on Thursday and said the potential for severe weather and icy roads at the time “made it impossible to determine when it will reopen.”

Horne Creek is within the Division of State Historic Sites in the department of cultural resources. According to department spokesperson Faye Mitchell, the department serves more than 19 million people through its 27 historic sites, seven history museums and two art museums. The department also operates the nation’s first state-supported symphony orchestra, the state library, the N.C. Arts Council and the State Archives.
