SCHUYLER

LOWGAP — Mrs. Nancy Avis Mayes Schuyler, 86, of 133 Schuyler Farm Lane, Lowgap, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Jan. 9, 2013, at her home. Avis was a devoted wife, mother and Christian. One of her biggest joys was singing along with her husband Caldwell and son Trent. The Schuyler Family sang for many years. We know that Heaven’s choir shouted when Avis joined them in song. Avis was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Surry County to the late Abe and Issie Thompson Mayes. She was a homemaker and member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Donald Cockerham of Lowgap; two sons and daughter-in-law, Lowell Schuyler of Mountain Park and Trent and Jan Schuyler of Lowgap; grandchildren, Christy Ridgill and husband Marc of Greensboro, Amber and Brittany, David Caldwell Schuyler and Madelyn Grace Schuyler; great-grandchildren, Jonah Michael Ridgill, Connor Schuyler, Taylor Schuyler and Lexi Schuyler; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Avis was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Caldwell Schuyler; one sister, Catherine Mayes; and a brother, Reece Mayes. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church with services conducted by the Rev. John Attaway, the Rev. Russell Parsons and the Rev. Vernon Ball with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 68, Lowgap, NC 27024; or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
