PILOT MOUNTAIN — The East Surry boys varsity team beat the West Wilkes Blackhawks at the 2012 Communication for Education Holiday Classic, 74-61. Caleb Horton led the offensive effort with 18 points.

Mount Airy boys varsity Head Coach Levi Goins said, “We gained a lot of energy from out defensive pressures and caused them to turn the ball over.”

Goins said the Bears’ offense on the court Thursday came from the defense of the team. Goins said, “We shot a lot of layups and we were shooting a higher percentage in half court offense.”

The first quarter score was 15-11 Bears, and the score at the half was 32-24. The Bears won by a final score of 74-61.

Goins said the points contributed Thursday by the Bears were: Caleb Horton 18; Austin Taylor 13; Darius Gwyn 11; Khaileel Dailey 9; Dylan Gallimore 4; Isiah Simmons 4; Carson Mounce 3; and Sean Best had two.

The Mount Airy boys varsity will play North Wilkes tonight at Pilot Middle school at 8:30 p.m. in the second half of the classic.
