Arrests

The Surry County Sheriff’s Office has reported the following arrests:

• On Dec. 8, Kermit Wayne Freeman, 36, of Poplar Springs Road in Elkin, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and larceny. He was booked into the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 bond.

• On Dec. 12, Gloria Dawn Settle, 32, of Wolfe Road in Thurmond, was arrested and charged with one count of failure to appear, breaking and entering, larceny and the possession of stolen goods. She was booked into the Surry County Jail on a $1,500 bond.

• On Dec. 14, Nicholas Daniel Dutton, 28, of Radar Road in Ararat, was arrested and charged with obtaining property by false pretenses, the possession of stolen property and larceny. He was booked into the Surry County Jail under a $2,000 bond.

Incidents

The following incidents are under investigation by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office:

• On Dec. 14, William Joseph Spencer, 40, of Westfield Road in Mount Airy, reported that someone had broken into his home. The items missing included six rifle and shotguns valued at more than $2,300.

• On Dec. 14, Robert Edgar Smith Jr., 64, of Maple Grove Church Road in Mount Airy, reported that someone had stolen a bush hog and assorted scrap metal from his property. The items taken were listed as having a value of $700.

• On Dec. 14, Agustin Cruz Chavez, 51, of Gregson Trail in Dobson, reported the theft of a window air conditioner, a portable welder and a well pump from his property. The items taken had a listed value of $550.

• On Dec. 14, Bobby Joe Robertson, 38, of Goodson Road in Lowgap, reported the breaking and entering of his home and the theft of a shotgun, rifle, various jewelry, assorted pocket knives and money. The items taken had a listed value of $1,050.

• On Dec. 14, Suzanne Hufham, 64, of Flippen Road in Lowgap, reported the breaking and entering of her home and the theft of jewelry, a pistol and a bedspread. The items taken were valued at $660.

• On Dec. 15, Patrick Young, no age available, of Maple Drive in Mount Airy, reported the breaking and entering of his home and the theft of a hot water heater and a push mower. The items taken were valued at $300.

• On Dec. 15, Judy Holland Jessup, 68, of Whitaker Chapel Road in Pilot Mountain, reported the breaking and entering of her home. While no items were reported missing, the damage to a window was listed as having a value of $100.

• On Dec. 15, Janet Spainhour Pate, 46, of Ararat-Longhill Road in Mount Airy, reported the breaking and entering of her home and the theft of a 32” LED television and a laptop computer. The items taken were valued at $600.

• On Dec. 16, Jose Luis Medina-Diaz, 52, of Southridge Drive in Mount Airy, reported that someone shot out a window in his home. Damage to the window was listed at $200.
