MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Rachel Lou Jones, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Jones was born in Surry County on April 12, 1927, to William McKinley and Ethel Irene Redman Mabe. She was retired from First National Bank and was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are her loving husband of 65 years, Charles Edward Jones of the home; a sister-in-law, Pauline Jones Pardue of Mount Airy; a niece, Teresa Pardue Davis of Hope Mills; a nephew, Andy Mabe of Nashville, Tenn.; a great-niece, Kaitlin Davis of Hope Mills; and many friends who will surely miss her loving smile. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by a brother, Ray R. Mabe. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Roger Gilbert. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church for the “Friends Feeding Friends” Program at 714 N. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
