WEST JEFFERSON — The North Surry baseball team hit five balls that either hit the fence on one bounce or tagged the fence on a fly, yet had no home runs Friday night at Ashe County. No matter for the Greyhounds, who raked 12 hits and hammered host Ashe County, 13-6 Friday night.

Champ Reynolds belted a pair of doubles, while Cody Palmer, Taylor Hall and Josh Holderfield each doubled once.

Reynolds went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs. He also stole four bases. Palmer was 2-for-5, and the leadoff man reached base three times. He boasts a robust on-base percentage of nearly .700 this season, North Surry coach Tim Collins said.

With so many well-hit balls, why didn’t any travel over the fence?

“Under normal weather conditions, all five were home runs,” Collins said. “There was a pretty brisk wind blowing in.”

Every player in the Greyhounds’ starting lineup either reached base, had an RBI or scored a run.

“It was pretty well spread,” Collins said.
