A 15-year-old county youth was placed in juvenile detention after what Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson called “a romantic triangle” resulted in the stabbing of another teen late Thursday.
Atkinson said the stabbing shortly before midnight at 212 Hickory Drive, Mount Airy, the home of a 15-year-old girl who had been involved with both the victim and the alleged assailant.
The 15-year-old boy was reportedly hiding at the girl’s home when she came home with Luis Fernando Gudino, 17, and the younger boy allegedly stabbed Gudino. The girl was also injured in the incident.
The boy then stole his mother’s car and fled, “reportedly headed to Mexico,” the sheriff said in a written statement. He was apprehended in Iredell County.
Atkinson said the teen is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and larceny of a motor vehicle.
He is being held in a juvenile detention center pending a court appearance.
