DOBSON — In these troubled economic times, it is often necessary to put off taking care of yourself, but the Surry County Health and Nutrition Center is offering some help for this year’s impending flu season.

County officials say the center is offering a limited number of free flue vaccines to the general public.

The vaccine is being supplied by the state of North Carolina and will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis.

“The vaccine is available to anyone 6 months of age or older,” said Thomas Williams, spokesman for the county’s health and nutrition center.

Members of the public can come to the center, located in the County Government Building in Dobson, on Monday through Friday, between 8:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., or from 1 to 4:30 p.m., Williams said.

“There is no appointment necessary,” he noted.
