PILOT-MOUNTAIN — The East Surry boys varsity team won its home opener Tuesday night against Ashe County Huskies by a score of 51-28.

Head Coach Jason Anderson said that he was pleased with the team effort Tuesday on both sides of the ball.

“I thought our guys were patient, they waited on screens and got a lot of deflections on defense as a team. We had 15 assists and did an excellent job at the boards. The team had a total of 27 rebounds,” Anderson said.

Anderson said he also saw good communication, which is something he looks for. “The intensity on defense created transition offense and worked to bring a victory. Some younger guys came off the bench and gave some me good minutes.”

The guys did well against a good defensive team, said Gunter.

East Surry put up 13 points in both the first and second quarter making the score 26-12, Cardinals. During the third quarter, the team put up a total of 11 points outscoring the Huskies by four points in the quarter. Finally, they contributed the most points of all during the fourth quarter putting up 14 points outscoring the Huskies by five points.

Seth Brim was the lead scorer with 14 points; Drew Alley was second highest scorer having 12 points; Carson Long scored eight points; Eli Gilbert scored six points; Tyler Pardue scored four points; Scott Meredity scored three points; and Tra’von Rickets scored two points.
