Mount Airy’s Kirsten Parries won her second-straight runner of the year award as the Northwest Conference unveiled its all-conference cross country team Monday.

Parries, who broke her own conference record in the 5,000 meters, was third in the state for 1A this fall and will be back again next year for another try.

The junior has finished in the top 10 all three times she’s competed in the state meet: sixth, third and a state title last year.

Parries was the only local runner to make either the boys or girls teams as Bishop McGuinness dominated the lists with 12 of the 20 runners.

North Stokes had four runners on the teams, West Stokes two and South Stokes one.

Bishop’s Sam Williams was named boys’ runner of the year, while Bishop’s Robin Youtz was named girls’ coach of the year. The boys’ coach of the year award went to North Stokes’ Jimmy Dillard.
