PINNACLE — Mr. Donnie Edward Sawyers, 57, of Pinnacle, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009. He was born in Surry County on March 8, 1952, to Ruby Lawson Sawyers Sechrest and the late Aubrey Sawyers. Mr. Sawyers served his country in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Army and was a well known figure in the town of Pilot Mountain. Donnie was the former owner of Pilot Grill, Tucker & Dezern and Cupboard #2 in White Plains. He was a member of Friendly Chapel Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Penny Hall Sawyers of Pinnacle; his mother, Ruby Sechrest; one daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Reggie McCraw Jr. of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Holden McCraw; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances Hicks of Pilot Mountain, Dyann and Victor Mendenhall of Walnut Cove, Bonnie and Bryan Tilton of Pilot Mountain and Debbie and Travis Wright of Pinnacle; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Jan Sawyers of Pilot Mountain, Randall Sawyers of Pinnacle, Darold Sawyers of Walnut Cove, Ronnie and Glynis Sawyers of Pilot Mountain, Delmer Gray and Gaye Sawyers of Pilot Mountain and Barry and Wendy Sawyers of Pinnacle; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 15, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Brim’s Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Don Collins and the Rev. Gerald Jones conducting the service with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive family and friends Saturday, March 14, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain is assisting the Sawyers family.
