A Pilot Mountain man who already was a registered sex offender has been charged with an alleged crime involving a juvenile in connection with a weekend incident at a Mount Airy flea market.

William Keith Roberts, 57, who is listed with an address on N.C. 268-East, is being held in the Surry County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond, according to the Mount Airy Police Department.

Roberts is charged with a first-degree sex offense against a child, who police say is 7 years old.

The arrest occurred after city officers responded to Bonnie Lou’s Flea Market on Carter Street in reference to a possible sexual assault. It was reported to have involved the juvenile, although police declined to say whether the alleged victim is a boy or girl.

Roberts was charged after an investigation.

He is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Dec. 3.

The state sexual offender registry of the N.C. Department of Justice lists Roberts due to previous convictions on four counts of sexual battery. Those involved incidents in Forsyth County in 2007, 2010 and 2011, registry information shows.

Forsyth County authorities arrested Roberts in July 2011 for allegedly taking indecent liberties with children who came to Wake Forest Baptist Health for outpatient diagnostic procedures at an imaging facility, based on earlier media reports. Roberts is a former registered nurse at the hospital who later was fired, according to those reports, which indicated that inappropriate touching was involved.

Roberts was convicted of the sexual battery charges in March and placed on probation, court records show.

I will, I figure they will come around this weekend and probably ask the sellers if they saw anything "everyone" saw him with that little boy and they are shocked too that the mother left him alone with this weirdo, who she barely knew, why she sold at the top of the flea market. So I am sure everyone of the sellers will tell them what they know. thanks

I was at the flea market that day and I saw him acting weird with three kids at his stand, I thought they were his grandchildren because he was kissing the head of the oldest boy child and rubbing his back, me and my husband both thought something wasn't right. It was just weird ,both of us said, "Where is those childrens mother" he acts like he is a sex offender or something. The mother was no where around that I saw, so I am shocked that they were just somebodys kids he had at his stand. I would have called on him myself. He is weird anyway. The mom was just letting them kids run loose in crowds of people at the flea market. Someone said his mom was selling near him but I never saw her.

This goes to show what a slap on the wrist in court causes. To think another child was hurt bc the creep didnt sit behind bars whats it going to be next time they let him off with a slap on the wrist maybe a child raped and beaten to death. Hopefully this time justice will be served for these children and their families.

Great example of our failed and useless justice system. Not going to say anything literal that may get someone or myself in trouble, but hypothetically if this man were found beaten to death in his cell or on the street tomorrow, I'd sleep better.

How many times do we have to allow these creeps to repeat their offenses before they are finally put away so that they can't do more harm?
