DOBSON — Emergency crews as well as power crews responded to the scene of a weather-related fatal wreck on Prison Camp Road that occurred Monday night.

According to information from John Shelton, director of Surry County Emergency Services, a 26-year-old man was killed when a large oak tree fell in front of his small Ford pick-up truck as it traveled near 1437 Prison Camp Road toward Dobson, roughly two miles below the North Carolina Department of Transportation Center.

Shelton said speed did not appear to be a factor in the accident. He said the driver had no time to react and crashed into the large oak tree which fell directly in front of the vehicle. Shelton said the emergency call for the accident was received at about 6:51 p.m.

Traffic was routed along Old County Home Road around the scene, where live power lines were downed as well. The identity of the victim was being withheld pending notification of the family.

Further more why dont you make sure its not a family memeber that your running your mouth to. I said it was sick that they posted it before family was notified all because these news people want to be the first ones out there to report breaking news and have no concern on how the family is going to feel.

Pri...it is ironic that you mentioned "do the math" in your comment.

The story was posted as Breaking News at 1:12 AM. The accident was reported at 6:51 PM.

Before calling anyone "sick", maybe you should be the one to "do the math". The news was not reported until 6 hours after the accident occurred.

it is a little unnecessary to call anyone "sick" if they had gave a name it would be different...its not like there is only one 26 year old driving a truck in that area. Prayers for all...
