East Surry remains unbeaten

PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry remained unbeaten as it got by Surry Central, 8-4, in an error-riddled game for both teams.

The Golden Eagles (2-2) scored first when they recorded a pair of unearned runs — both resulting from East Surry miscues — in the top of the first.

In the bottom of that inning, the Cardinals (4-0) answered when Jason Murphy’s fielder’s choice knocked in Brent Smith. Logan Needham later scored on an error to even the score at 1-1 after the first inning.

East Surry broke the game open with a four-run fifth. Troy Jessup singled in a run, while Lathan Hunter doubled home Jessup. the other two runs scored on errors.

Hunter got the victory and was replaced by Dylan Wilcox in the sixth.

East Surry opens its Northwest 1-A schedule when it travels to Mount Airy today with the junior varsity beginning at 4 p.m.
