The dancers in classes taught at Surry Community College as part of the continuing education division will be hosting a showcase Friday night at the college.

The event will take place in the gym which is located in the “P” Building and begin at 7 p.m., last about an hour and a half.

In its third year, the showcase provides an arena for students the ballroom dance, country line dance and belly dance classes to showcase what they have learned during the 10-week sessions.

“It’s a chance for all the dance classes to come together and show each other what they’ve learned,” said Terri Cockerham, coordinator for personal enrichment programs and special projects. “It’s a good chance for people to look and see if it’s something they’d like to do.”

The country line dance classes will begin again in the fall and belly dancing will either have a mini five-week course or begin again in the fall. Ballroom dancing will have a new beginner’s class starting March 16.

Around 40 students will participate in the showcase and last year’s event drew about 200 spectators. The showcase is free and open to the public.
