MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Rachel Lambert Simmons, 71, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on Nov. 12, 1940, to the late William Lambert and Gracie Hiatt Lambert Carter. Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Hester of Mount Airy; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kristin and Alex Tilley and Devin and Amber Hester, all of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Mason Hester; and a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Frank Williams of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Erskine Eugene Simmons; and a sister, Frances Willard. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends Monday from noon until time of the service at Midway Baptist Church.
