TURPIN


KING — Mr. Everette “Toots” Turpin, 88, of King, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Turpin was born in Surry County on Jan. 22, 1924, to the late Benjamin Ade and Edna Vaughn Turpin. He retired from Volvo Truck as shop foreman and was a member of Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville. He served our country in the United States Navy during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Joyce Bryant Turpin of the home; a beloved stepdaughter, Robin Laughlin of Lexington; beloved stepsons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Brent Hall, the Rev. Ronald Dale and Brenda Hall, all of Mount Airy, and Jeffery Scott and Lisa Hall of Winston-Salem; grandchildren and their spouses, Christy and Chris Whitaker, Gina Whitaker, all of Mount Airy, David and Sharie Hall of Laurel Fork, Va., Laura Hall and Joseph Hall, both of Winston-Salem, and Byron Laughlin and Heather Laughlin, both of Kernersville; eight great-grandchildren; and nephews, Randy, Thomas, Ken Turpin and Rex Inman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Turpin was preceded in death by his first wife, Polly Turpin; a sister, Silvia Inman; and brothers, Theodore, John and Charlie Turpin. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Pinnacle View Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Decker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.
