Mrs. Jones was retired from Davis Department Store in Winston-Salem, where she was a buyer in Foundations. When asked about her job, fitting girdles and bras, she would quip, “I’m in the meat-packing business.” She stayed busy throughout her life growing flowers, surrounded by items she made herself, including knit or crocheted afghans and doll clothes often shared with friends and family. She and Mr. Jones were inseparable for 72 years and loved serving their church together. They enjoyed trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the beach, always together. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Oakdale Cemetery by the Rev. Alex Martin. There will not be a formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church at 314 S. Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
