Dobson — The Golden Eagles engineered an offensive explosion against the Bishop McGuinness Villains that led to a high scoring 41-19 homecoming victory.
Colby Chilton threw for one touchdown, had eleven rushes for 102 yards and passed for 90 yards. Offensive Coordinator Wes Evans said that given the Villains’ strength on defense, the plan was to run the ball, a strategy that worked.
J.J. Dunn filled in at the quarterback position for the Villains because starting quarterback Sean Hamacher was out with the flu. He played well enough to rack up 19 points on the board for the team and ran in six himself.
Much of the night the Golden Eagles did get great field position due to lackluster punts by the Villains.
The Villains Thomas La Muraglia kept field position alive for his team, exercising excellent special team work in punt returns.
The Golden Eagles pounded away getting consistent first downs that began to wear down the Villain’s defense.
Villian’s Coach Charlie Jones said he felt that the missed tackles hurt the Villains.
Steven Priddy, Surry Central’s defensive coordinator, said at half time with Golden Eagles leading 21-13 said that that he expected in the second half his team would “start playing smart, understanding their gap opportunities and read key plays.” They apparently did that, based on the Golden Eagle’s allowing only 6 points in the second half.
The Golden Eagles record is now 3-4 and Bishop McGuinness record went to 4-4.
Offensively Jared Dimette had 16 carries with three touchdowns.
Kenyon Martin ran for 34 yards and punched in one more touchdown for the Golden Eagles.
The evening was topped off by the crowning homecoming queen Katie Bledsoe. Katie’s father remarked how special that his daughter is. He said, “She is like an angel on earth.”
