Mount Airy’s Katie Hicks gets a block on North’s Erin March. The Lady Bears jumped out to a great start before the Hounds came back for a win.
North Surry improved to 12-0 with a volleyball win over Mount Airy Thursday.
The Lady Greyhounds took the match 3-0 while wearing blue headbands to increase awareness of childhood diabetes.
The Lady Bears came out hot. They took the first three points, then with the score tied at six they went on a 9-3 run.
North Surry called a timeout at 15-9. After two points each put the score at 17-11, the Hounds made a run.
A 9-2 spurt put the home team up 20-19 and drew a timeout from Mount Airy. The Hounds kept up the pressure and won 25-21.
After finishing the first set on a 14-4 push, North Surry started the second frame with a 14-3 run.
Mount Airy scored four straight to cut into the lead, but North pulled ahead and won comfortably 25-10.
A 25-16 third set gave the Hounds their 19th win of the season against a single nonconference loss.
Molly Martin came up big for the home team. She led the Hounds in kills with 13 and digs with 10. She also went 10-10 serving with two aces.
Malaya Johnson and Kristina Rumplasch each had seven kills and three blocks.
Setter Bailey Culler had 34 assists.
Libero Maddison Hawks had eight digs and went 10-10 with an ace.
Taylor Hill served three aces and finished 15-15.
