Benefits and Fundraisers

• Maple Grove United Methodist Church, Maple Grove Church Road, Mount Airy, will have its “awesome” autumn yard sale Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until. Food being sold includes sausage biscuit breakfast and hot dog lunch. Proceeds benefit outreach ministries.

• The ninth annual Buddy David Memorial golf tournament will be held Saturday at Skyland Lakes Golf Course at milepost 202 of the Blue Ridge Parkway sponsored by the Wesleyan Men of Mount Airy Wesleyan Church. Registration is at 9 a.m., and tee time is 10 a.m. Cost is $45 per person, which includes entry into all events, 18 holes of golf, riding cart and a chance to win prizes. The first-place team will win $180, and second place wins $100. It is a Captain’s Choice format. Bring a team, or participants can be paired up with a team. Mulligans are $5 each with a limit of four per team. Prizes will be given for longest drive on hole 10, and closest to pin on all par 3’s. • Salem United Methodist Church, 2591 Wards Gap Road, will have a bazaar and big country breakfast Oct. 6. Breakfast, to be held from 7 to 10 a.m., will include country ham, sausage, bacon, gravy, grits, eggs, biscuits and apples and will cost $7 for adults and $3 for children. The bazaar, from 7 a.m. to noon, will include a bake sale.

• Level Cross United Methodist Church, corner of N.C. 268 and Siloam Road, will have its 35th annual Harvest Sale and Barbecue Buffet Supper Oct. 6. The yard, craft and bake sale is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with concessions for breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The supper with all the fixin’s is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at a cost of $8 per plate. Barbecue by the pound will be available all day for $8. Proceeds benefit the church’s building fund.

• Copeland Baptist Church, Rockford Baptist Church and Stony Knoll United Methodist Church will host a port-a-pit fundraiser for the Shepherd’s House of Mount Airy Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a cost of $8 a plate. Tickets are required. Plates include BBQ chicken half, baked beans, BBQ slaw, roll and dessert. Take-out only will be at Rockford Baptist Church, 4947 Rockford Road, Dobson. • Trinity Episcopal Church, 472 Main St., Mount Airy, will have a St. Francis of Assisi Blessing of Pets Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. While the event is free, any donations made at the ceremony will directly benefit the Sergei Foundation whose mission is to provide veterinary financial assistance to families who are unable to afford emergency-level care for their pet.

Special Services

• Flippin Memorial Baptist Church, 1344 McBride Road, will have the last two of its revival services today and Saturday with prayer room at 6:45 p.m. and service at 7 p.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Ron Chamblin. Special singing today will be by Tina Smith, and Jerusalem Way will sing Saturday.

• Mount Airy First Pentecostal Holiness Church will have its homecoming Sunday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Albert Everidge as guest speaker. Special singing will feature The Willing Vessels. The Rev. Ronnie Harris is speaking at the 8:30 a.m. service.

• Turkey Ford Baptist Church, 1508 Turkey Ford Road, Dobson, will have revival Sunday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. with special singing nightly. Speaker is the Rev. Larry Stone.

• Macedonia Baptist Church, 6716 Doral Drive, Tobaccoville, will have homecoming service Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Marty Sewell as speaker and music by Matt Flinchum. A meal will follow in the church fellowship building.

• Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, Rockford Street, Mount Airy, will have its Centennial Celebration Oct. 13 and 14. A fellowship celebration will be held Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. with music provided by Vessels of Clay. Following the celebration, there will be a time of refreshments and fellowship in the fellowship hall. The 100th anniversary celebration will be Oct. 14 at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Wayne Trexler will be preaching the sermon, and there will be no early service or Sunday school. Following the 11 a.m. service, there will be a covered-dish meal. The church will provide the meat, bread and drinks, and everyone is asked to bring a well-filled basket.

• Piney Grove Baptist Church, 278 Piney Grove Road, Mount Airy, will host Austin Caviness, WXII meteorologist, as speaker Nov. 4 during the 11 a.m. service. For more information, call the church office at 356-4196.

Special Music

• Welcome Baptist Church, Welcome Baptist Church Road, will have its Fifth Sunday night singing on Sunday at 6 p.m. featuring Jerusalem Way. Refreshments will follow the singing.

• Ivy Green Baptist Church will be having a Fifth Sunday singing Sunday featuring the Martin Family. Following the singing, there will be a hot dog lunch. Donations will be accepted for the Shoebox Ministry. The church also will have revival Oct. 14-17.

• A Fifth Sunday singing will be observed at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 154 Mount View Drive, Mount Airy, Sunday at 6 p.m. The featured group will be Bobby Patterson & The Heritage 4. Refreshments consisting of finger foods and desserts will be served in the fellowship hall immediately after the service.

• New Life Baptist Church, 411 New Life Church Road, will have a singing Sunday at 6 p.m. with From The Heart singers. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the singing in the fellowship hall.

• Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Penn Street, Mount Airy, will have a singing Sunday featuring Vessels of Clay at 6 p.m.

• A five-week seminar of the book of Revelation is being held at the Pilot Mountain Seventh-day Adventist Fellowship, 108 Heatherly Creek Drive, Pilot Mountain, from 7 to 8 p.m. The meetings will be held every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. • The Lions Den Christian Coffeehouse, 162A W. Pine St., is a donations-only coffeehouse open Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 8 or 9 p.m. The location offers wifi connection, and contemporary Christian bands on Fridays when available. • Reformers Unanimous Addiction Recovery program will begin weekly sessions at Temple Baptist Church, 3615 Rockford St., Mount Airy. • The First Baptist Church Feeding Friends Soup Kitchen provides a free hot meal to families and friends in need every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The church is between Elm and Galloway streets at 714 N. Main St. Parking is available behind First Baptist off Arch Street. The feeding friends dinner is served in the fellowship hall in the building closest to downtown, with signs available to guide visitors.

• A free “soup kitchen” is available on the last Thursday of each month in the Piney Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come as they are with no strings attached. The church is at 278 Piney Grove Road, which can be reached at 356-4196.

• Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:15 p.m. radio station 880 am will have radio ministry with Pastor Danny Poindexter from the Lighthouse Baptist Church.

• Flat Rock Presbyterian Church, N.C. 103 and Quarry Trail, has Sunday school every Sunday at 10 a.m. followed by traditional worship service at 11 a.m. Nursery is provided for both.

• Pleasant View Baptist Church, 154 Mount View Drive, Mount Airy, has Sunday school every Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. Bible study is held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The nursery is available.

• Grace Moravian Church, 1401 N. • The Fountain Food Ministry hours have changed. Families in need of clothing or food may come every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. The ministry will be open weekly on Thursdays to assist those in need of food.
