• A Mount Airy man was arrested Monday as a fugitive from justice, according to city police department reports. Officers encountered Ronald Lee Carter, 48, of 221 Eleanor Ave., during a traffic stop on Greenhill Road at North Main Street for an alleged unsafe movement. During a routine check, Carter, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant from Patrick County, Va., and also served with another warrant from Forsyth County. The charges involved in both jurisdictions were not specified. Carter was held in the Surry County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond, pending an Oct. 23 appearance in District Court in Dobson.
• Jason Dwayne Newman, 33, of 391 Dover Church Road, was arrested Sunday on larceny and possession of stolen property offenses that had been issued on Sept. 11. Details regarding them were not listed. Newman, who was taken into custody at a Factory Street address, was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond and is to be in Surry District Court on Oct. 10.
• Two area teens are facing larceny violations as the result of an incident at Walmart Saturday. Anthony Wayne Lawson, 16, of 169 Southridge Place, and Matthew Lee Bennett, 17, of 240 Shoals Road in Pinnacle, were each cited for larceny after store loss-prevention personnel allegedly saw them take merchandise with a total value of $59. The two are scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Oct. 16.
• Ashley Nicole Hawks, 26, of 9 Brim Lane, Ararat, Va., was cited for larceny Saturday at Walmart, where she allegedly took personal hygiene products valued at $25 and tried to leave the store without paying. All the items were recovered. Hawks also was found to be wanted on a charge of failing to appear in court which had been filed in January 2010. She was confined in the county jail in lieu of a $500 secured bond and is to appear in Surry District Court on Oct. 16.
• Brittany Nicole King, 21, and Kayla Nicole King, 20, both of 205 Catfish Trail, Lowgap, were arrested on larceny warrants Friday after an incident at Walmart, for which details were not listed. They were transported to a magistrate’s office, where each was released under a $1,000 unsecured bond pending an Oct. 2 appearance in District Court.
• A lawn mower was discovered missing Friday from the home of Swanson Richards on Henri Street. No value or brand name was listed for the red push mower.
