MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Clyde William Joyce, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at the home of his granddaughter surrounded by his loving family Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012. Mr. Joyce was born in Surry County on Aug. 24, 1930, to the late Rufus Albert and Ida Mosley Joyce. Mr. Joyce served in the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Clyde Joyce and Company and at age 70 received his CDL. Mr. Joyce is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Kaye Joyce of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Christie Tate and her husband, Robert, of Mount Airy; a great-grandson, Colby Edwards; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Bill Atkinson of High Point; and a sister-in-law, Margie Joyce of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Joyce was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Marie Poindexter Joyce; a sister, Vivian Smith; brother, Perry Joyce; and an infant brother, Frank Joyce. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Stone officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist with the funeral expenses. The family would like to express its appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and Jeff and Tina Edwards for all their care during the illness of Mr. Joyce.
