Not only is 2012 bringing a presidential election, it also is a year for the Surry County NAACP to elect officers.
Present officials of the group, including President Faye Carter and Secretary Shelby King, are seeking to inform all its members of the upcoming election.
It is scheduled on Nov. 18 at the regular meeting site of the local NAACP, Spencer Funeral Home on North Main Street in Mount Airy. The election will be held at 6 p.m.
Along with the choosing of officers, 2012 is special for Surry Branch 5459 of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for another reason. This year, the group also is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its formation in 1962.
