With the second annual Taylormade Fore Craig golf tournament approaching, organizers are looking for five more teams to sign up and for sponsors.
According to Traci Hamilton, one of the event organizers, 25 teams is the maximum number of teams that can sign up.
The golf tournament will take place on Thursday at Cross Creek Country Club. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of ALS and raise money for ALS research to find a cure. All money raised will go to benefit research.
“The money is not going to Craig, but it’s important to his family to find a cure,” Hamilton said, referring to former county commissioner Craig Hunter who was diagnosed with ALS while still serving on the board.
The tournament will begin with lunch at 11:30 a.m., then tee time will take place at 1 p.m. The tournament will be captain’s choice, 18 holes, with four-person teams. The cost of registration is $90 per person or $325 per team, which includes green fees and cart, refreshments during play, and lunch at the pavilion. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
Sponsorship levels are $750, $500, $250 and $150. The sponsorship levels are named in honor of Hunter’s children — C.J., Gaines, Worth and Mary Grace.
If people want to donate prizes such as gift certificates or other items, organizers also could use more prizes to give to the top teams. Prizes need to come in fours since there are four players per team.
People can send in donations or sponsorships to P.O. Box 1928, Mount Airy, Hamilton said. Checks should be made payable to Taylormade Fore Craig.
