For those who love to fish, on Saturday the Mount Airy Women’s League is hosting the Take Me Fishing event at the Tumbling Rock Reservoir at Westwood Park from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Lisa Goodin, the fundraising chairperson with the Women’s League, said this will be a fun event for all ages. She said this event used to be called Fish Stock and it was more music oriented. The Women’s League took over the event for the Mount Airy Parks and Recreation program.

“The wildlife guys stocked the lake so it will be stocked to the gills. There will be fishing rods and bait, and you don’t need a fishing license,” said Goodin.

Every time someone catches a fish, they will get a raffle ticket or raffle tickets can be purchased for 50 cents each or three for $1. The drawing for the raffle items will be at 2 p.m.

“We have so many different things from tube rentals to dinner and goofy golf. All of the local businesses have been so supportive,” said Goodin of the donated raffle items.

She said this event will be a great time for kids to get outside and enjoy nature.

The money raised for this event will go to help pay for the programs that the Women’s League is involved with such as beautification projects, literacy programs, supporting the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History, working with Alzheimer’s’s groups and with domestic violence programs.

Goodin said she just wants everyone to come out and have a good time.
