Benefits and Fundraisers
• An annual community benefit gospel singing will be held Sept. 8 from 4 p.m. until at a location on Round Peak Church Road, two miles off of N.C. 89 West. Admission is free, but food will be available for purchase. Singers include Robin Hardin, Mike Jones, David Goins, Oak Ridge Singers, Beulah Land Praise Team and more. Funds will benefit Haley and Carolyn Cockerham. Those attending should bring a lawn chair. In the case of rain, the singing will be moved to Oak Grove Baptist Church.
• New Venture Baptist Church women will have a benefit bingo Sept. 8 at Franklin Ruritan Building in Toast. Doors open at 5 p.m., and games start at 6:30 p.m. Bingo packets cost $15. There also will be door prizes and a silent auction. Hot dogs, chips, drinks and desserts will be available. Prizes include Celebrating Home, Thirty One, Pampered Chef, Bath & Body Works and Sabika Jewelry. All proceeds benefit funds for church carpet and refinishing church pews.
• The Glory Hallelujah T.P. Church, 495 Hodges Mill Road, Dobson, will have a rummage sale Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. until to benefit the mission fund. It will be held rain or shine.
• The ninth annual Buddy David Memorial golf tournament will be held Sept. 29 at Skyland Lakes Golf Course at milepost 202 of the Blue Ridge Parkway sponsored by the Wesleyan Men of Mount Airy Wesleyan Church. Registration is at 9 a.m., and tee time is 10 a.m. Cost is $45 per person, which includes entry into all events, 18 holes of golf, riding cart and a chance to win prizes. The first-place team will win $180, and second place wins $100. It is a Captain’s Choice format. Bring a team, or participants can be paired up with a team. Mulligans are $5 each with a limit of four per team. Prizes will be given for longest drive on hole 10, and closest to pin on all par 3’s. • Copeland Baptist Church, Rockford Baptist Church and Stony Knoll United Methodist Church will host a port-a-pit fundraiser for the Shepherd’s House of Mount Airy Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a cost of $8 a plate.
