After falling from a tree Monday morning Frank Levering has been hospitalized, and the play slated for this weekend at Cherry Orchard Theatre will be delayed to the weekend of Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2.

Levering suffered five broken ribs and a punctured lung. He was recovering in Northern Hospital of Surry County as of Tuesday.

Because he is out of commission, his play, “Outlandish Sex Lives of the Men Next Door,” will not open this weekend but will go on as scheduled the following weekend Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2.

This weekend there will be music, poetry and storytelling, according to Levering’s friend, Terri Ingalls.

Over the past 11 years, scores of productions, storytelling sessions and concerts have been performed in this outdoor performance space.

Next weekend will mark the last weekend that plays will be performed at the theater this summer.

Showtime is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Shows are performed rain or shine. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. Reservations are accepted but not required. Theater attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, food and something to drink.

Directions to the Cherry Orchard Theatre are: coming from the greater Mount Airy area, take U.S. 52 north across the Virginia line. Turn right onto Epworth Road, go three miles. Turn left on Wards Gap Road, go four miles, then take Orchard Gap Road. From there, it’s one mile up to the theater. From downtown Mount Airy, take North Main Street, which turns into Wards Gap Road, then turn on Orchard Gap Road to the orchard.
