CLEMMONS — Mr. Donald Lee Marion, 70, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009. He was born in Surry County, the son of the late Sidney Sherman Marion and Nora Hunt Marion. He was a member of Pilot View United Methodist Church in Shoals. Donald served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 32 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald Lee Marion Jr.; two sisters, June M. Hicks and Nina M. Cook; and two brothers, Charlie Marion and Dean Marion. Donald is survived by his wife, Kay Covington Marion; three sisters, Gertrude M. Allen and husband, Clarence, of Shoals, Violet M. Simmons of Rural Hall and Roxie M. Schaffer of Conway, S.C.; two brothers, Mack Marion and wife, Joan, of Jacksonville and Nat Marion and wife, Carolyn, of North Wilkesboro; a special niece, Debbie Sheek of Rural Hall; two special nephews, Scotty and Joel Marion, both of Shoals; special friend, Peggy Marion of Westfield; and several other nieces and nephews. A graveside service for Donald will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Fairview United Methodist Church in Shoals with Bro. Don Collins and Mr. Scott Marion officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Joel and Teresa Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Buddy Marion, 3562 Quaker Church Road, Pinnacle, NC 27043.
