Today, a trip to Lone Star Steakhouse can yield more than a full belly and a tasty slab of beef.

Throughout the day, Lone Star is hosting a Dine and Donate event, during which 15 percent of proceeds will be donated to the Greater Mount Airy Area Habitat for Humanity.

But don’t walk in the door and think you’re just going to be able to order and give to Habitat when you pay your tab.

All customers who wish to participate in the Dine and Donate program will have to present a flyer to their server in order for 15 percent of their tab to go toward Habitat.

Flyers are available at the Mount Airy Habitat ReStore, located at 813 Merita St., or by email at info@mountairyhabitat.org.

The local Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, Lynn Wilkes, said the Dine and Donate program is an easy way for people to help house the homeless.

“It’s a way for people to help support Habitat without even lifting a hammer,” she said, noting that without the support of businesses like Lone Star it would be difficult to continue to provide housing in the county.

“We are grateful for this opportunity to partner with Lone Star Steakhouse,” Wilkes added. “We hope to continue to partner with them on a regular basis for Dine and Donate events.

The Greater Mount Airy Habitat for Humanity is an organization that strives to build simple, decent, affordable housing for deserving families in Surry County.

The Dine and Donate program will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., at Lone Star Steakhouse, located at 1905 Woodland Drive.
