n A moped was reported stolen to the Mount Police Department Thursday by Lonnie Timmons, a Broad Street resident. The moped valued at $450 was removed from Timmons’ property during the night before. The case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.

n Gina Nixon, 36, of 3448 W. Pine St., was cited for larceny Thursday night at Wal-Mart after being detained by loss-prevention personnel there. Nixon is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on April 15.

n Charles Andrew Valentine, 39, of 109 Dutch Lane, was cited for larceny Thursday after allegedly concealing items at the D & J Galaxy food store on Westfield Road. Valentine’s court date is April 14.

n Oscar Efrain De La Cruz, a resident of Earl Joyce Lane, told police that one of three small dogs in the vicinity of Jones School Road near L.H. Jones Family Resource Center bit him on the back of the leg Thursday morning as he was walking there. Minor injuries resulted. The case was turned over to Surry County Animal Control, but charges in the incident could not be confirmed.

n Michelle Jones Huff of Mount Airy reported Thursday that her wallet was stolen from her purse while it was inside her vehicle at the Central United Methodist Church Child Center on North Main Street. Huff advised police that she left her Ford Expedition unlocked and returned to find the wallet missing. It contained about $85 in cash along with credit, debit and ATM cards. The case remains open for further investigation.

n Also Thursday, it was reported that an unknown white male attempted to steal merchandise at Wal-Mart by allegedly pushing a shopping cart through an empty cashier lane. The suspect abandoned the merchandise and left the business. The case is listed as inactive.

n In another case involving Wal-Mart, police were advised Wednesday that a Hewlett-Packard color printer valued at about $140 was stolen by an unknown white male who ran past employees trying to check for a receipt at the door. The case remains open for further investigation.

n A man identified on police records as homeless was charged with breaking and entering Wednesday after officers investigated a report from a woman who said he had entered a house on Oak Street near her place of employment. The woman said she knew the home’s owner, Tony Chen, who had given no one permission to enter or stay at the residence. Officers treated the matter as a break-in in progress and located Cruz inside the structure. The man allegedly admitted that he had been residing there without permission due to being in need of shelter. Cruz was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on March 17.

n Misty Dawn Oakley, 24, of 518 Junction St., was served with a criminal summons Wednesday on two offenses: assault, inflicting serious injury, and assault and battery, which had been filed last Saturday. The complainant is Jeremy Wayne May of Jeffries Street. Oakley is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on March 13.

n William Gray Coalson of Bowtie Lane in Lowgap reported Wednesday that someone had used his credit card by signing his name to a receipt to purchase food worth $25 at Little Richard’s Barbecue on Frederick Street. The false-pretense case is still under investigation.

n Mary Louise Dixon, a Johnson Street resident, told police Tuesday that her son’s girlfriend, 26, knocked her to the ground and struck her in the face and head repeatedly until being pulled away. The incident, which occurred at Dixon’s home, was still under investigation at last report.
