Bridgeman walked to start off the bottom of the eighth and moved to second on Seth Miller’s fielder’s choice. A Tommy Wright single moved Bridgeman to third. Also providing offense was Corbin Bregman, who belted a home run earlier in the game.
“It was good to bounce back after losing that first game,” Surry’s first year head coach Jamie Lowe said. “It was good to see the kids win a close one in Game 2.”
The first game saw the Knights give up two runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings in a 6-3 loss. The Knights’ Andre Nichols, Matt Abner and Bridgeman each doubled in the first game. Starting pitcher Ian Haley left early in the game with discomfort in his throwing arm. Lowe said he should be fine, but will be checked out this week.
Despite the loss of Haley, Lowe liked what he saw from his staff.
“We knew our pitching was ahead of our hitting right now,” he said. “I really didn’t think we’d come out and hit. I think it will be better in the future.”
