After winning over audiences across the country, Elle, Bruiser and friends are set to make their Mount Airy debut with a three-day engagement in the city.
Performances for the much-anticipated “Legally Blonde — The Musical” are set to debut this weekend at the Andy Griffith Playhouse.
The performances are set for Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29 at 3 p.m., and Monday, July 30, at 7:30 p.m.
Tanya Jones, executive director of the Surry Arts Council, touts the cast as “high-energy,” and “incredibly talented.”
“(The cast) comes from all over Surry and nearby counties,” he said. “We’re also excited to have two newcomers — a Chihuahua and a very fat Pug — playing the roles of Bruiser and Rufus.”
Jones promises that the musical has all the charm of the original movie.
The performances are being directed by Bobby Bodford, the artistic/education director of the Children’s Theatre in Winston-Salem. Will Shover, dance director of the Surry Arts Council and owner of Rhythm on Main, is choreographing the performance and Mark Pilson, a Winston-Salem music teacher, is serving as music director.
“Legally Blonde — The Musical” stars Savannah Mumford as Elle. Mumford will be attending the UNC School of the Arts this fall to major in drama.
Elle’s boyfriend Warner is being portrayed by Katlin Sias, who will be a senior at North Surry High School this fall.
Will Bryant will be playing another lead role as Emmett Forrest, Margot is being played by Emily Lowe, Serena is being played by Ronalyn Dizon, and Pilar is being portrayed by Jasmine Hagwood.
The playhouse’s box office will open one hour prior to showtime. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Surry Arts Council at 336-786-7998 or online at www.surryarts.org.
Tickets are $10, or a 2012 Surry Arts Council season pass.
The Andy Griffith Playhouse is located at 218 Rockford St. in Mount Airy.
