• Property worth more than $400 was discovered missing Monday after a break-in at the Surry/Stokes SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) building on Hadley Street. After entry was gained through an unsecured window, a Lenovo laptop computer and power cord were taken.

• Two dogs were reported stolen Monday from the home of Patricia Gonzalez Ramirez on Penn Street. The brown-and-black Rottweiler and black-and-white collie mix, both 2 years old, were removed from Ramirez’s property by unknown means.

• Evan Gray Moore, 18, of 2054 Cynthia Drive, is facing violations of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and consuming alcohol while under 19 years of age, which were filed in the early morning hours Monday after police investigated a loud-music call at Moore’s home. He was found to be allowing juveniles to consume alcohol there, which also led to Cody Scott Smith, 17, of 347 Bluemont Road, and Charles Richard Odom, 17, of 344 Hay St., being cited for underage consumption. Moore was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $500 secured bond. All three individuals are facing an Aug. 29 District Court appearance.

• Philip Lee Newton, 29, of 133 Chandlewood Lane in King, and Lindsey Hadden D’Auito, 100 Breezy Lane, King, were charged Sunday with obtaining property by false pretenses, a felony, and misdemeanor larceny. The case stems from an incident at Walmart in which the pair allegedly stole items and returned them for cash. D’Auito additionally is accused of simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Newton and D’Auito were confined in the Surry County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond each and are scheduled to appear in District Court on Aug. 29.

• Also Sunday, Debra Watson Slate, a resident of Venable Farm Road, told police that her wallet apparently was stolen from the parking lot of the Prime Sirloin restaurant on Rockford Street after she lost it there. Upon realizing the wallet was missing and returning to the lot, Slate found the property gone. The loss included a Wachovia debit card, $60 in cash, a $25 gift card, a driver’s license and a Social Security card.

• Ashley Brent Harris, listed as a 22-year-old homeless person, was cited for larceny Sunday after allegedly taking a cigarette lighter at Dollar General on North Renfro Street. She also was found to have an active warrant against her involving an order for arrest from Wilkes County which was issued last December, although details of that were not included. Harris is free on a $100 unsecured bond and is to be in District Court on Aug. 1.
