Kids operating a lemonade stand during hot weather is not unusual, but sales by youths in a summer program at L.H. Jones Family Resource Center in Mount Airy could supply a water buffalo to an orphanage in India. The offering of homemade lemonade to passersby at the center Tuesday and Wednesday for 50 cents a cup was aimed at raising $200 for buying the animal, which will be a valuable source of milk for the orphanage. The local effort is part of a charity based in Texas that seeks to aid impoverished peoples. William Long, 9, is shown serving lemonade Wednesday to Annalisa Davis, resource center director.
