Details have been announced concerning a poker run planned Saturday morning by the American Legion Riders motorcycle group as part of an event to aid Garry Scearce, a Surry County commissioner suffering from cancer.
Registration for the poker run will start at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on West Lebanon Street, where a variety of other activities is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
The riders are to leave the park at 10 a.m.
Owners of all types of bikes are welcome to participate in the 90-mile ride. The route will include traveling along N.C. 89 toward Danbury, circling around the countryside and returning to Mount Airy via U.S. 52 North.
Meanwhile, the activities to begin at Veterans Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Saturday will include live music from two bands; a car show by Cruise-In for Christ; a dunking booth manned by county officials and others; hamburger and hot dog sales; and various children’s games along with a bounce house.
Money raised through concession sales and donations will help offset the mounting medical expenses of Scearce, who represents the Mount Airy District on the Surry County Board of Commissioners.
