• Four Virginia residents are facing felony and other drug charges as the result of a narcotics investigation late Monday in the parking lot of McDonald’s on North Renfro Street, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. Amanda Faye Redding, 26, of Callands, is charged with trafficking of opiates due to being in possession of a “trafficking amount” of Oxycodone (73 dosage units), arrest records state. She also is facing a violation of possessing drug paraphernalia from the incident and was served with an order for arrest for failing to appear in court in Forsyth County. Kevin Thomas Rigney, 23, of Wirtz, is charged with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud (based on a July 13 warrant), possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Others charged were Glen Wayne Martin, 24, of Boones Mill, with maintaining a drug vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was impounded after the arrests, and Katherine Nicole Dellis, 21, of Rocky Mount, possessing Schedule III and IV controlled substances and providing fictitious information to an officer. Dellis allegedly supplied police with a fake name. Redding and Martin were confined in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond each, Rigney under a $3,500 secured bond and Dellis, a $500 secured bond. All are to be in District Court on Sept. 11.
• The theft of a motorcycle valued at $16,000 also has been reported to city police. The Yamaha SZ6R was discovered missing last Thursday from a parking area at Big Lots on Carter Street. The blue and white motorcycle, owned by Jackson Del Simpson of Echo Trail in Dobson, was taken by an unknown suspect while parked near the front of the store.
• Items were reported stolen from a motor vehicle last Thursday at the Andy Griffith Playhouse. After entering the unlocked 1992 Ford Escort LX owned by Sherry Sue Parks of Parks Farm Lane, someone removed items including a purse, gold rings and bracelets, a man’s wedding band, a cell phone, a Social Security card and a driver’s license.
• Tony William Epperson, 38, of 1667 Bryant Road, was served with a criminal summons for damage to property last Thursday after police encountered him during a traffic stop on Bluemont Road at U.S. 52. The property-damage offense had been filed on July 3 with Jason Bouldin of Key Street in Pilot Mountain as the complainant. Epperson is to appear in Surry District Court on Aug. 3.
• A driving while impaired violation was filed against Connie Gleaton Cromer, 54, of 328 Circle C Farm Road, Ararat, Va., after a motor vehicle crash last Thursday in Mount Airy. While searching for Cromer’s ID during the investigation, police allegedly located prescription medication in the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup she was operating. Cromer, who was transported to the hospital by the Surry EMS, admitted having taken prescription pain medication. This led to a blood test to check for impairing substances, with the DWI offense subsequently filed. Cromer’s District Court date is set for Aug. 30.
• Michael Ray Simmons, 54, of 196 N. Franklin Road, and Derrick Ray Simmons, 24, of 1050 Whispering Oaks Lane, were charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance, which is a felony, and misdemeanor violations of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on July 11 after police responded to a disturbance call at Sobe’s Backstreet Pavilion on North South Street. Crack-cocaine and marijuana were seized during the incident, with the two men each jailed under a $5,000 secured bond and scheduled for an Aug. 24 appearance in Surry District Court.
• Sheila Annette Taylor, 48, of 122 Oakland Blvd., Boonville, was cited for larceny on July 11 after she allegedly took items valued at nearly $270 at Walmart. Taylor is to appear in District Court on July 11.
• Candace Marie Roman, 25, of 244 Atkinson Road, Siloam, was cited for larceny on July 11 for allegedly shoplifting merchandise worth $60 at an unspecified Advance Auto Parts location. Roman is slated to be in District Court on Aug. 22.
• A case of obtaining property by false pretenses occurred at Tarheel Converter and Core on Hay Street, according to a July 10 report, which states that a known individual had sold an auto battery there, valued at nearly $130, that did not belong to him.
• Another false-pretense crime occurred on July 9 at Food Lion on West Lebanon Street, where someone attempted to return unpurchased Pedigree adult dog food valued at $17 and then stole the merchandise.
