DOBSON — The filing period for two seats on the Pilot Mountain town board opened on Friday, and the two candidates to file for office at this point are half brothers, Scott and Meigs Needham.

Scott Needham, son of town Commissioner Linda Needham, filed for office on Friday, and his half brother, Meigs, filed for office at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Commissioners Andew French and Carolyn Boyles’ seats are up for grabs this term. French recently said that he will have to “mull” over the decision on whether or not to run again, while Boyles said she plans to file, but hasn’t had an opportunity to get to the Board of Elections office in Dobson yet.

The brothers’ father is Oscar M. Needham.

Meigs Needham, 53, of 512 W. Main St., is married to Gina Jessup. They have a 13-year-old son, Oscar. He graduated from East Surry High School in 1977 and Guilford College in 1982 with a Bachelor in Science in management and mathematics.

Needham said he has lived in Pilot Mountain his entire life. He is the owner of Needham and Associates, Inc. and is a Realtor and appraiser.

He said he filed for office so he can bring a positive influence to the town.

“I just want to see the town move forward. We need industry — economic development,” said Needham.

The filing period ends on July 20 at noon at the Surry County Board of Elections office.

I know Meigs Needham since I have lived in Pilot Mountain and he is one of the most honest, no BS people I have met in Surry County. We need someone on the board who has an interest in creating jobs, not a retirement community. It is time to move forward. Our infrastructure is falling to pieces and the current board/officials have allowed our community to deteriorate to a point of embarrassment. Come on folks, we are not looking for the same ole, same ole...it's time to get serious. kiger819...it's not a personality contest, it's the future of Pilot Mountain and I know Meigs is a person that can get things done!

To: thenanny - I totally agree with you. This is NOT a personality contest. This is about moving forward as you said. I think it's time to get someone in who is like Mr. Bell and take a stand for us citizens. I feel that Meigs is not afraid to take a stand and speak up. I absolutely DESPISE a "yes" man and I know that Meigs is NOT one of those. I am sick to death of the crap that is going on with the town council! I am more than ready for a NEW CHANGE!

I would encourage all residents of Pilot Mountain to vote for anyone who is running against Meigs Needham. He doesn't put his dog on a leash, he is mean to neighbors, and he thinks he is above all the ordinanances in town because of his last name. Why would citizen of Pilot Mountain ever vote for someone to be a town commissioner if they don't even think the laws and ordinances apply to him?
