Nancy Stafford, who played Andy’s Griffith’s co-star on “Matlock,” will be at Mayberry on Main on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. signing two of her books.

Author Nancy Stafford, who from 1987 to 1992 played an assistant attorney to Andy Griffith’s lead character on “Matlock,” will be at Mayberry On Main on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Debbie Miles, owner of Mayberry on Main, said said is excited to meet Stafford and is glad she’s coming to Mount Airy.

“She is sweet lady over the phone. I’m sure she’s the same in person,” said Miles.

Miles said Stafford will be signing her two books, “Beauty by the Book, Seeing Yourself as God Sees You,” and “The Wonder of His Love, the Journey into the Heart of God.”

Miles said she has been talking with Stafford about the book signing since January. She said this will be Stafford’s first trip to Griffith’s hometown.

She said Stafford played the role of Michelle on “Matlock” for five years. She also played a role on “St. Elsewhere” for three yeas. She also starred in the ABC series “Sidekicks.” Stafford began her television acting career as a regular in a dual role on the NBC daytime drama “The Doctors.”

She said some Mayberry fans have come to town just for Stafford’s visit. She said the news of Griffith’s death still weighs heavy on the hearts of those who loved him.

“The terribly sad thing is that it has been a week already. We’ve got to keep the Mayberry spirit going,” said Miles.

Miles said Stafford starred in some western movies and plans to attend the Western Film Fare in Winston-Salem while in the area. That event is being held at the Hawthorne Inn & Conference Center from Wednesday until Saturday.

Mayberry on Main is located at 192 N. Main St.
