A woman who recently told authorities that she was robbed at gunpoint by two black males has been charged with making a false report to police and embezzlement.

The incident had been reported at Mayberry Business Center at 796 W. Lebanon St. on Jan. 23. Police were told that the two men, displaying a black handgun, entered the business about 11:15 p.m. and demanded money.

Based on previous reports, the two were given an undisclosed sum of cash by a woman working at Mayberry Business Center, where customers can play sweepstakes games online, and fled. One was wearing a black hooded jacket, according to the description given police.

Officers searched the area without locating any possible suspects, and later issued an appeal to the public for information on the case, citing a lack of available details.

In the wake of the armed robbery investigation, Katie Marie Guynn, 18, of 403 Chilton Road in Ararat, was arrested Saturday afternoon on warrants for felonious embezzlement and making a false report to police, a misdemeanor.

Guynn was released under a $5,000 secured bond to her mother, according to arrest records. She is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on March 17.

During a telephone interview Sunday night she was asked if she had any explanation or other comment concerning the allegations, and Guynn replied, “No, I really don’t.”

The amount of the alleged embezzlement has not been released.
