Staff Report

The Surry Home Educator Runnin’ Patriots found out what games are like when losing a top player, falling to Cabarrus on the road, 77-66.

Surry’s Luke Hamilton, the teams leading scorer and rebounder, picked up four fouls in the first half, with three coming in the first quarter, sending him on the bench.

Surry’s Daniel Shaeffer put together a solid all-around performance in Hamilton’s absence, finishing with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists.

Runnin’ Patriots coach Lin Hamilton said he was disappointed with his teams defense in the loss.

“They spread the court and we just could not contain them,” Hamilton said. “They shot about 50 percent for the game, getting right there in the paint for the majority of their points. Our defense was a little bit lacking at times intensity wise. I would think they would be better this late in the season, so we are going to have to work on that.”
