DOBSON —The Surry Community College Lady Knights enjoyed a good weekend, sweeping Stanley Community College and Ferrum in softball action.

The Knights downed Stanley 4-3, 2-0 in a conference doublebill at Fisher River Park. On the first game, Surry led 1-0 but Stanley rallied in the fourth and added a run to tie the game. The Knights’ Kayla Epling hit a double in the bottom of the seventh. Teammate Megan Mabe later followed that with a double of her own to send in the go-ahead run for the victory.

Mabe, a left fielder for Surry, had two RBIs in the first game and several sacrifice flies in the second game to score runners. Surry Central grad Hayley Durham also had a triple in the first game against Stanley that helped drive in a run for the Knights. The Lady Knights scored one of their two runs in the second game in the third inning.

On March 22, the Lady Knights traveled to Ferrum to win 6-3 in the first game. Lauren Beaver was the winning pitcher in the opening game and evened her record at 4-4. Surry won the second game 7-1. Surry Central graduate Chelsea Craddock was the winning pitcher in the second game, which brought her win-loss record to 5-12. She had 11 strike outs in the game.
