DOBSON — Seven people who were burned out of their home on Saturday morning are still trying to find a place to live.

Patricia Wells and her boyfriend, Brent Casper, and five children were living at a home at 2020 Twin Oaks Road when the chimney at the rental home caught fire this weekend. The family escaped without harm, but with little else.

The American Red Cross put the family up in two rooms at the Quality Inn for three days. An anonymous donor paid for the rooms for another night, and the Salvation Army is paying for the rooms until Saturday.

The family is looking for a three-bedroom home or apartment to rent.

So far the family has received about $800 in donations and gift cards. A few people have brought clothes by the hotel for the family.

“We’ve just been out looking for some place to live,” Wells said Wednesday. Unfortunately, most of the places they have looked at are running in the $800 to $900 a month range. Both Wells and Casper are unemployed. She is attending school at Surry Community College and is close to finishing an associate’s degree. Casper typically works in the lawn-care industry, but is willing to take on any job he can to support the family.

A caller to The Mount Airy News, Annie Lee Wall, is prepared to donate a living room set to the family as soon as it finds a place to live.

“That’s what we are supposed to do is help our neighbors who are in need,” Wall said.

The family is need of everything, from food and toiletries to clothing and furnishings.

Here is a list of the sizes needed:

- An 18-year-old male who needs size 32-32 pants, medium shirts and size 12 shoes.

- An 18-year-old female who needs size 3 pants, small shirts and size 7 shoes.

- A 16-year-old male who needs size 28-31 pants, size 10 shoes and small men’s shirts.

- An 8-year-old female who wears size 10 slim pants, size 10-12 shirts and size 2 1/2 shoes.

- A 5-year-old girl who wears size 7 regular pants, 8-10 shirts and 12 1/2 to 1 shoes.

- Patricia Wells wears size 6 pants, small shirts and size 6 shoes.

- Brent Casper wears size 32-34 pants, extra large shirts and size 11 shoes.

Wells said that so far, Kelsey, 5, has received very few donations of clothing. Casper has not received any shoes that fit him so far.

None of the men have received blue jeans that fit them so far.
