ARARAT — Mrs. Clara Dell McCann Huffman, 77, of Ararat, gracious wife of 53 years, nurturing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and proud leader of her family, was carried away to the Lord by angels after a long and courageous battle on June 20, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Clara Dell McCann Huffman was born in Wilkes County on June 5, 1934, to the late James E. and Maude Burcham McCann. She was raised on a farm a short distance from Ronda and graduated from Ronda High School. She was a member of Popular Springs Baptist Church of Siloam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a special grandson, Jeremiah Clifton Baker; three sisters, Erlene McCann, R.V. McCann Johnson and Doris McCann Tharpe; four brothers, Byron McCann, Fredick McCann, Henry McCann and J.L. McCann; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Howard. Surviving are her husband, Kenneth E. Huffman of the home; one daughter, Tammy (Dell) Huffman and Scott Oklatner of Woodstock, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lynn Huffman of Mount Airy and Stuart and Denise Huffman of Siloam; grandchildren, Joshua and Bianca Corder of Ronda, Jena Caudle of Boonville, Jessica and Joe Harpe of Winston-Salem, Greyson Inscore of Mount Airy and Whitney Huffman of Siloam; great-grandchildren, Taylor Sierra Caudle, Gavin Corder, Dakota Caudle, Parker Corder, Aspen Caudle and Wyatt Harpe; two sisters, Norma Howard of Winston-Salem and Betty and Felix Tharpe of Dobson; and two brothers, Tom and Nora McCann and Bill and Bonnie McCann, all of Roaring River. Several loving nephews and nieces and her special sister-in-law Mercedes (Marty) Naumann also survive Clara Dell Huffman. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Popular Springs Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Brother Curtis Ponder is officiating the service. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
