CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Mr. Jerry Wayne Throckmorton, 59, of 3254 Plaza Circle, Chattanooga, and formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2009, at the Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. Mr. Throckmorton was born March 11, 1949, in Surry County to the late Clyde Franklin and Ruth Fulk Throckmorton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War and was retired from Cross Creek Apparel Co. Jerry was known to his friends as the “Governor.” Surviving are one daughter, Penny Hazelwood of Mount Airy; a grandson, Christopher Hazelwood of Mount Airy; one sister, Jean Hartline; a sister-in-law, Nancy Throckmorton of Ooltewah; a special friend, Carol Prince of Rossville, Ga.; several cousins; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Throckmorton was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde “Boe” Throckmorton and Steve Ray Throckmorton. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with services conducted by the Rev. Kelly and Tammy Haynes with burial to follow in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post #2019 and Pilot Mountain Post #9436. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy and at other time at the home of Terry and Linda Parker, 209 Burke Road, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Clinton Gravley, 354 Hay St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
