The Surry Thunder 12-and-under baseball team finished second in a Greensboro tournament Saturday and Sunday.

The Thunder lost a close 8-7 game to Guilford Nationals in the Beast of the East USSSA Baseball Tournament. The team went 3-2 over two days of play at Beeson Park.

The team — made up of players from Mount Airy, Central, Pilot Mountain, Gentry and Meadowview middle schools — lost 8-6 to Guilford in the first game Saturday morning.

It came back to win 10-2 over the Scorpions in the afternoon game to stay alive.

On Sunday, Surry beat the Hitting Zone 16-5 and the Uwharrie Hornets 4-1 to advance to the title game.

There the team lost another close game to the Nationals.
